To make matters worse, prejudice is still a very real presence in the global
society. Many Asian students, because they are more inclined to keep to themselves, are
erroneously labeled stupid. This is obviously not the case, but many younger students
have not encountered Asian students before, so they simply misinterpret introversion for
lack of intelligence. Prejudice is caused by ignorance of the other group…bringing
members of conflicting groups into contact would undermine stereotypes and provide an
opportunity for communication (Greenland, 2005). The findings of this study implicate
the importance of intentionally crossing the paths of students from different cultures so
that they may learn more about one another. This technique lessens the perceived
distance between each student’s cultural norms.
