GK12 projects require graduate students (or, so-called Fellows) conducting research in an area related to the general theme of a given GK12 project, i.e. climate change, wireless sensor networks, renewable energy systems etc., to bring their research to K-12 classrooms as teachers and mentors. GK12 grants offer more than basic, randomly implemented outreach, as the program requires graduate research to be brought to classrooms via well-planned, systematic course modules, all prepared and presented by the graduate students in classrooms up to 10 hours a week.
