Nor are the Wechsler tests the only assessments that have revealed different abilities between male and female participants. Eleanor Maccoby and Carol Jacklin’s (1974) review of gender differences in intellectual performance likewise found differences in performance on verbal, mathematical, and spatial tasks. More recent research, however, has revealed that the patterns of gender differences in these mental abilities are more complex than the early reviews suggested. In addition, these differences have changed, and gender-related differences seen to be decreasing or perhaps disappearing.
