Older toddlers, like younger toddlers, are learning about their world through exploration. Their need to explore, to find out, and to do things their own way and by themselves dominate their play activities. Two-year-olds are also likely to set tasks for themselves and to work hard to complete self-challenges. For example, a 2-year-old might systematically complete a simple puzzle, increase the challenge by turning pieces upside down or trying to complete two similar puzzles at the same time, sort a box of toy animals into “families” or farm, zoo, and sea animals, fit all of the blocks into a shape sorter, or fill up a pegboard with peg.
