This zone experiences less anchor ice and has a fauna of numerous sessile animals, mainly anemones and other cnidarians. The anemones here often feed upon rafted-in jellyfish or sea urchins, while the other cnidarians are suspension feeders. The anemones appear to be terrtorial.
Zone III begins abrupty where anchor ice ceases and continues down to an undetermined depth. The substrate changes from a cobbly-rocky bottom to one that is a thick mat of sponge spicules. Sponge domi-nate this area, but the area has a rich and diverse fauna of other invertebrates as well, of which starfish
