The search for to the problems of poverty has had mixed results.
1. Most of the government’s spending for social welfare goes to the nonpoor.
2. Most of the public aid to the poor goes to dependent children, their mothers, the aged , and the disabled.
3. Social security payments and unemployment compensation are financed by employee and employer contributions rather than from public funds.
4. Programs aimed at training unskilled workers have been fruitful mainly when linked to work placement efforts.
5. Urban renewal and Communuty Action Programs have had negative as well as benefical effects on the poor.
Summary : Older
Our increasing knowledge of the serious problems of growing older can be a fruitful source of ways to prevent or lessen them.
1. Solving related social problems such as poverty or sexism could help to prevent some of the problems of growing older.However, each of us has guiding our own life and for striving to avoid or overcome our own problems.
2. Not only do schools need to improve their methods of preparing students for adult life but also lifetime learning opportunities need to be made available on a greatly expanded scale.
3. Greater consideration by employers of the personal needs and troubles of their workers could ease some of the serious problems of growning older.
4. Government can have a major part in helping the employability of young adults and the postworking considitions of later adulthood.
