It is important to state here that several globally threatened migratory water bird species have effectively used the Asian coastal wetland habitats as stop-over sites or feeding grounds from ancestral times (Sandilyan, 2009; Sandilyan and Thiyagesan, 2010; Sandilyan et al., 2010b). Therefore, migratory shore birds which depend on Asian mangroves and adjoining coastal systems might face potential heavy metal bioaccumulation threat due to the consumption of benthic animals, crabs, shrimps and fishes.
