Before a continuous system is initially put into operation, and periodically thereafter, it is necessary to run each ingredient feeder to check the designated feed rate against the actual feed rate. Initial calibration of feeders is accomplished by timing at least two, and usually three, individual runs into a container, being sure weigh and record the weight of each run. The feeder tests are used to develop charts or to develop a multiplier factor to determine the actual settings for each feeder for each individual formula. As part of the feeder test, a density should be taken of each ingredient and recorded with the test.
