That visionary will be vanished if we allow Mae Wong Dam to happen in this great forest. The dam will destroy the best scenic site on Mae Wong Stream where large numbers of tourists have come to appreciate. The reservoir will inundate all the ground below 200 meters, which is considered the best habitat for wildlife. The reservoir will open an easy access for poachers to come in by rafts or boats to hunt sambar deer, muntjac, wild pigs, and, surely, tigers until the area becomes an empty forest. The situation like this has happened to other forests next to dams and reservoirs in Thailand. Because the dam site is only about 10km to the boundary of Haui Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Mae Wong Dam will send the destructive ripple effects to the world heritage site by allowing easy access and escape routes for poachers and wood and forest products smuggler. It will be like setting the clock back to destructive and exploitative era when park rangers can hardly control.
