Gelatin is an animal protein obtained by a controlled hydrolysis
of the fibrous insoluble collagen present in bones and skin, generated
as waste during animal slaughtering and processing. It is
considered one of the most promising natural polymers for packaging
applications because of its low cost, renewability and
biodegradability (Patil, Mark, Apostolov, Vassileva, & Fakirov,
2000). Unfortunately, gelatin-based materials have some major
limitations comparing with conventional petroleum products, due
to their high moisture sensitivity, poor mechanical properties as
well as low thermal stability Hence, many attempts such as
blending crosslinking and compounding with nanosized clay
have been made to modify the poor properties of
gelatin
