preservation of lignocellulosic
biomass is of fundamental importance with respect to the
efficiency of acid pretreatment, which requires appropriate concentrations
of H3O+ formed by the water that is dissociated. A
shortage of water in the biomass results in the formation of less
H3O+ ions, which subsequently reduces the quantity of fluid transported
to the interior of the biomass, consequently resulting in a
loss of efficiency during hydrolysis.
