GENERAL CASHIER PROCEDURES
1. The general cashier must consolidate all deposits on a daily basis.
2. Upon opening the front office drop safe, the general cashier and the witness should verify that all the envelopes recorded on the drop log are present in the safe. Both people should initial the drop log as proof of their verification. Any discrepancies should be immediately reported to the head of accounting department.
3. Once the number of envelopes is verified, the general cashier should count the contents of all envelopes and compare the count to the amount recorded on the envelope and shift end report in the presence of the witness. If differences exist, the general cashier must reported to the head of account department immediately. The remittance envelope must then be altered to agree with the actual cash deposited.
4. Due-backs to the cashiers must be returned to them on a daily basis. A log is to be maintained with the due-back section of the remittance envelope to be signed by the cashier upon receipt. For those cashiers who are unable to collect their due backs during office hours, arrangements will instead be made to hand – over the amount to the department head concerned.
5. Once all the money from the remittance envelopes has been consolidate and the foreign exchange rates determined, the general cashier must complete the daily summary and supporting annexure. A bank deposit slip should be completed and deposited to hotel bank account.
6. The Head of accounting department must verify the validate bank deposit slips daily and compare the deposit amount with the actual cash receipts.
