In summary, in this study beneficial effects of garlic on
the course of an experimental infection with A. pleuropneumoniae
and on the lung pathology have been shown.
Further studies are needed to assess a possible role of garlic
in preventive treatment of A. pleuropneumoniae-associated
lung disease as alternative for the metaphylactic use of
antibiotics, to understand the underlying mechanisms and
also to further investigate a possible dose-effect relationship
between the garlic concentration in feed and the
clinical picture.
