patient movement:if possible should engage in exercise to prevent joint contractures and to promote circulation. the patient should be told to shift position frequently when in bed or in a chair to relieve pressure.if the patient is unable to move,he or she should be positioned to prevent pressure on bony areas of the heels and ankles, and a turning schedule should be developed .range of motion of the hips.knees.and ankles must be performed at each turn to prevent hip and knee flexion contractures,which place pressure on the edges of the foot,heels,and malleoli(knight&scott,1990)
