Mexico’s Round of 16 curse at the World Cup continued in
heart-breaking fashion Sunday as the Netherlands scored twice
in the final 5 minutes to complete the comeback and send
Miguel Herrera’s bunch packing.
After Wesley Sneijder finally beat Guillermo Ochoa
(he isn’t invincible after all!) in the 88th minute to tie the game,
Arjen Robben did what Robben does best in stoppage
time — go to ground at the slightest of touches in the penalty box.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar converted from the spot and that was that.
Mexico were eliminated. Robben’s dive was the big talking point of the day
and drew the ire of Herrera in his post-game press conference,
though the general consensus on social media seemed to be
that it was both a foul and a dive. Regardless which way you
