Concerning the offshore estimates, at P222/085 and
P009/222, the mean biases are quite close and 1 cm lower
than the absolute estimate. This is clearly visible in
Fig. 5, which presents the Jason-1 mean bias estimates in
all the cases. This difference may be due to the effect of
the ocean dynamics between the coast and the open ocean.
Nevertheless, Table 2 and Fig. 5 show that using the ocean
dynamics correction induces a reduction of the mean bias
of about 0.5 cm in all the cases but the discrepancies
between the direct and the offshore estimations are the
same as in the previous case. The ocean dynamics conditions
consequently do not explain these differences in the
bias estimates. The variability of the bias estimates at each
crossover point also slightly diminishes when using the
ocean dynamics correction, which is an expected effect.
