PHA production batch reactor using the S-SFL as carbon
source. It can be seen from Fig. 2a that the high concentration substrate
was quickly absorbed after addition and nearly depleted
within 60 h to enter the famine phase. As shown in Fig. 2c, with
the substrate consumption, the amount of PHA (0.10–0.28 g/L) as
well as the cell dry weight (0.34–0.56 g/L) increased simultaneously
while the active biomass almost remained the same
(0.19–0.24 g/L). PHA accumulation and degradation have been
reported to exist simultaneously during PHA production (Segawa
et al., 1990).
