D1.1. Destination. Access to the destination refers to the ease with which the sport tourist can reach the geographic location where the event is held. Those destinations served by several airlines have a definite advantage over other destinations not so wellserved (Yeoman, Robertson, Ali-Knight, Drummond, & McMahon-Beattie, 2004). In a similar manner, destinations that can be reached easily by train, bus, or automobile provide easy access. Hence, as Getz (1997) points out, organizers of an event often select a site with a central location relative to the market targeted to attend the particular event. It is no surprise, therefore, that many of the largest sporting events are held in larger urban areas which have the infrastructure to facilitate the influx of tourists.
