As per Nov. 29, total landings for the season reached
308.9 Thd T, 28% of the quota (graph 4).
Of course, it is too early to say whether the
fishmeal market should be declining in Peru as about
70% of the quota remains to be landed. Assuming
average daily landings of 24 Thd T during the balance
of the season, as experienced in the first 13 fishing
days, means that the quota will be filled within the
next 30 days, i.e. before the end of the year except if
fishing does not meet market expectations, either
due to bad weather or to government decisions to
impose fishing bans associated with large juvenile/
undersize fish. So, the key to the market will be
whether or not there will be any buying interest for
“new crop” production during this period and at what
price.
