(expressed as mg/l), L is the volume of leaching agent, and MD the
dry mass of the monolith (expressed in kg).
The control materials for this experiment were the same as
above, crushed to the same size as the present test samples. All
tests were performed in duplicate.
2.2.7. Mercury determinations
The Hg concentration of all leachates was determined in
triplicate using a LECO Instruments AMA 254 Mercury Analyzer.
Certified reference materials were used to verify the accuracy
and precision of the determinations made. These certified
reference materials were BCR 151, CRM 020 and CRM 027 (certified
values 0.101 ± 0.010 mg kg1 Hg, 1.120 ± 0.320 mg kg1 Hg, and
3.80 ± 0.65 mg kg1 Hg respectively). Ten replicas of each were
examined, giving the following results: BCR 151 0.089 ± 0.004;
CRM 020 1.241 ± 0.108; and CRM 027 3.447 ± 0.455. Thus, no differences
were seen between the certified and measured values at
the 95% confidence level.
