Conclusions
In conclusion, this study for the first time demonstrated that crude MMME and mojabanchromanol b isolated from MMME exert potent anti-inflammatory effects. The results from this study showed that MMME significantly reduced the production of NO, iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β by attenuating the activation of NF-κB, an inflammatory signaling cascade in LPS-induced macrophages. This is also supported by observed reduction in ear thickness and mast cells. Furthermore, we isolated a new compound from MMME called mojabanchromanol b, and examined the effect of mojabanchromanol b on NO production and pro-inflammatory cytokines. It presented that mojabanchromanol b has a higher inhibitory effect more than its crude MMME. Thus, our findings indicate that MMME has a significant therapeutic value for the inflammatory diseases and mojabanchromanol b isolated from MMME may be a potent candidate agent.
