With physical outcomes, the phenomenon of fetal programming is well established. This is when the environment in utero during specific critical periods for different outcomes, can affect the development of the fetus and the child in the long-term. Fetal programming has been especially studied in relation to fetal growth and later vulnerability to cardiovascular and related diseases [[6], ∗[7]].
