How to lose yourself was the name of my project 2. This project was related with the era of modern art. I have been to Tate Modern museum and Tate Britain museum in London on Friday 8th July 2016 to researching of this project with my classmate.
I went to Tate Modern museum first to watched the Geogia O’Keefee exhibition. She was the famous artists American Modernist painter. This exhibition showed the stories of her life from 1910s to the 1960s in different part through the artworks and the photographs by her husband name Alfered Stieglitz. All an artworks has been separated in thirteen rooms in different concepts.
I started walk around the exhibition and came to the second room name Abstraction and the sense this room made me was surprised with her imagination also reveals O’Keeffe was a gifted colourist as well. This area shows the oil colour painting on canvas in different sizes. She painted the abstract flowers in the close up view also used a flowing line and combination colours perfectly. Moreover, all artworks were created not just for beautiful but this form created for supporting her inspiration from sensory stimulation. She always put the symbol of woman to identify feminine qualities on her work. In my opinion, I think her artwork in this concept could brings the appealing of woman to an audience amazingly.
In the next rooms shows some photographs of her portrait in black and white colours that taken by her husband. These photos could explain their relationship through the simple mood and tone including the emotion on her face or her eyes when looked at the photographer. All of those photos so attractive people want to know more the story of they life.
Geogia O’Keefee was not just a feminist artist but she also loved to travelling as well.
She love to go to a new place to find out a new inspiration and gain a new idea to do her artwork. I agreed with her idea because I think people could not gain more experiences if they decide to stay at home on weekend or the holiday. They should go outside to see something that they never seen before or try to touch the texture they never touch before. In my view, I think the journey so importance to people especially an artist and designer, who always needs an inspiration to creating and their idea. These the reason why I was interested in the room number eight of this exhibition.
From the paraway, nearby: the skull paintings was the concept of this room. O’Keefee went to New Mexico and she spent summer time to found an animal bones she took them back from the desert and started painting. She interested with hole of skulls and the desert landscape there. In this room shows her artworks in other technique some drew a charcoal on paper in black and white.
Almost her works in this room shows oil painting on canvas with her style. She still applied pale colours on her works even she painted an animal bone but it was identify in feminine style as the past. I interested with her work in this section because she improved an idea to do the different thing. Also she could explain an experience about her journey through the exquisite painting completely.
