The swimmer assumes a layout, back, position. The feetfirst movement is initiated by using the firstfeet scull-layout, back (Hands near the hips). (For a description, see Chapter 4, page 29) As the swimmer move firstfeet, she begins to press her heels down. She continues the scull as she arches her lower and then upper back. Just before her head submerges, she makes a catch by leading with her thumb toward her hips and then rotates her forearm so that her fingers brush past her hips. Her hands are then in front of her body, with the palms toward the surface of the water.
