As mentioned above, a detailed knowledge of the double differential neutron yield from 5 MeV protons on beryllium is crucial for the final modeling of such an accelerator-based BNCT facility. Since the neutron spectrum measured downstream the proton beam (0°) was the only one available so far (Howard et al., 2001); a systematic characterization of the neutron energy distribution was carried out at different emission angles between 0° and 120°. These measurements were performed at the Van de Graaff CN accelerator of the INFN-LNL laboratories.
