The economic outputs in Table 2 are based on the results from applying the parameters from Table 1 using Formulas (1), (2), (3), (4) and (7). The difference in slaughter weight is the primary factor that allows the salmon producer to achieve approximately ten-fold greater operating income and benefit to cost ratio compared to the sea bass producer (Table 2). In contrast, the sea bass producer attains a greater than 20% improvement in production efficiency compared to the salmon producer as shown by the net savings per kilogram fish harvested. This effect can be explained by the greater margin between market price and feed costs for the sea bass producer compared to the salmon producer.
