The other main focus of STS education in Thailand is in the area of decision-making, and
again there is now a substantial body of research based in Thailand. For example, Posri (2007)
studied Grade 6 students’ learning achievement about substances in everyday life and their
decision making after science teaching and learning through an STS approach in Ban Khumkreung
School, Khon Kaen, Thailand. It seems that teaching and learning about substances in
everyday life through an STS approach raised student awareness of issues to do with health
and nutrition. After an intervention, students could relate their experiences in society to
science by, for example, seeing how local foods were preserved using local ingredients.
