USD/IDR Slips But Rising Bond Yields Still a Concern -- Market Talk
15 September 2016, 02:41
0241 GMT [Dow Jones] USD/IDR is down slightly Thursday, representing a mild recovery of the Indonesia rupiah against the U.S. dollar. The rupiah had fallen for three consecutive sessions due to widespread risk aversion. The rupiah's bounce today doesn't mean the coast is clear for investors yet. The yield on Indonesia's 10-year government bond has shot higher recently, and climbed a bit more today to its current 7.10% compared with 6.92% Friday, an indication that investors are selling high-yield assets. The rupiah could come under pressure again if foreign investors offload more Indonesian debt. USD/IDR is now 13,190 from its Wednesday closing of 13,200. (ewen.chew@wsj.com)
