The elasmobranch tissue samples (muscle or
fin clips) for our study were collected from various locations in
northern Australia and Indonesia and were either preserved in a
NaCl-saturated 20% DMSO solution or 95% ethanol, or were frozen
at−80C. Whole specimens, identified by an expert taxonomist,
were retained where possible as voucher specimens for each
species. Specimens which were too large to be retained were photographed. Voucher specimens are stored at the Australian National
Fish Collection at CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, Hobart,
Tasmania.
