A widely cited sociologist, Anthony Giddens, former director of the London School of
Economics and an adviser to the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, writes about the
globalization process. According to Giddens (1990, p. 64), globalization is “the intensification of
worldwide social relations which link distant localities in such way that local happenings are
shaped by events occurring many miles away and vice versa”, thereby changing all aspects of
our everyday life.
