Wat Phratat Doi Suthep has been a sacred Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai for a very long time, and is the outstanding symbol of the city, as indicated by the motto : Glorious Doi Suthep, graceful traditions, attractively beatiful flowers, these symbolize Nakornping.
Wat Doi Suthep is locatedon the of suthep mountain in the Doi Suthep-Pui National park. It is 3,051feet above sea level.

Doi Suthep is the name of a mountain on the western edge of Chiang Mai. The original name of this mountain refers (U-Su-Bunpot) refers to the dwelling place of Sutheva Ruesi (Hermit Sutheva). It is therefore called Doi Suthep by villagers in general.
