4.1.3.3. Producers. As mentioned above, some producers also
collect and recycle waste printers. However, as we know, for the
producers, only Fuji Xerox recycling company established their own
recycling system for waste printers and toner cartridges. Though
the other produces have some takeback plans, they often entrusted
the formal recycling enterprises to deal with these waste printers,
similar with the current recycling system of the typical five kinds of
e-waste (PCs, TV sets, refrigerators, washing machines, and air
conditioners). In 2008, Fuji Xerox's recycling company in Suzhou
city recycled more than 1200 waste printers and 100,000 toner
cartridges. The material flow for recycling waste printers in the Fuji
Xerox recycling company is presented in Fig. 6. Almost all the
materials from the waste printers can be reused or recycled.
Because the producers know the detailed structure and materials
used in their products, they can maximize the resource utilization,
with the least input time and cost, giving them a tremendous
advantage compared with other recycling channels. It should be
noted, though, that the producers process only their own products,
thus limiting their scope.
