According to Mīmāṁsā, the particular quality (viśeṣa) of anything cannot be fully differentiated from its universal quality (sāmānya), so viśeṣa was eliminated as an extra category for analyzing reality.
That is, it was claimed that although two things might seem different in one way, we could still experience them in the same way, which meant that we cannot fully distinguish them.
For instance, two roses might be distinct from each other, and yet we experience each of them as having the quality of red color, so in a way they were also the same.
