Regarding the sugar cane ash, the presence of 5 wt.% provokes a
slightly reduction of the shrinkage with respect to the standard one
and no weight decrease is observed, while the mechanical properties
are improved (MOR values for bricks fired at 1000 C are
around 28 MPa). These results have confirmed the role played by
this kind of agricultural waste, that thanks to its high silica content
(61 wt.%) is capable to explain a filler and plasticity reducing effect
on the brick bodies.
