Concentrations of NEFA in control does were affected by day of
gestation (p < 0.001) and at day 18 the increase was significant
(p < 0.01) compared with day 0. Conversely, glucose levels were not
affected by the day of gestation. Both NEFA (p < 0.01) and glucose (p < 0.001) were affected by food restriction (Fig. 3, A and B). Compared
with control does, NEFA concentrations increased by 50%
(p < 0.01) in R3 does during the restriction period and an interaction
between group and gestational daywas detected (p < 0.05). Mean
glucose concentrations in pregnancy (0–26 days) differed between
control and restricted groups (p < 0.001): the R1 group showed higher
mean values (135.6 mg/dl; p < 0.01) than those of the control group
(117.7 mg/dl), whereas the R2 (99.3 mg/dl; p < 0.01) and R3
(100.4 mg/dl; p < 0.05) groups showed lower values than those of
the control group.
