Malaysian Durian
Durian - Local only to Southeast Asia, is also known as the “king of fruits”. The fruit is very well known to Asian food connoisseurs, especially the Malaysian durian varieties. Durian is easily recognised by its thorn-covered husk and strong odour. As a highly prized exotic fruit, it’s a thick slice of heaven for those who enjoy it.
The taste of Malaysia’s famous Mao Shan Wang variety has even caught the attention of Macau’s casino king Stanley Ho so much that he was known to send his personal jet over to fly the fruits back. Mao Shan Wang is well known for its thick, golden-yellow flesh. The texture is smooth and creamy with a sweet and slightly bitter taste.
Durian Paste
During the peak season, durian is processed by removing the husk and seeds. The flesh is then immediately frozen to preserve the quality. This flesh is called durian paste. There is also durian jam puree which is durian flesh preserved in sugar.
