Background
To address methods of staff retention, several studies have attempted to identify those factors in the nursing work environment which are related to nurses’ satisfaction (Kleinman 2004b, Erenstein & McCaffrey 2007, Christmas 2008). The link between a healthy work environment, nurses’
satisfaction and retention has been noted by various researchers (Aiken & Patrician 2000, Cho et al. 2003, Cohen et al. 2009).
