7.1.1 the stcw convention and code 1995
1-334 the international convention no standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers, 1978 as amended in 1995, together with its associated code, generally referred to as stcw 95. It is an international Maritime Organisation (imo) convention and code that completely revises the requirements for seafarer training and it is considered in detail in Specialist module c. It is, however, important that every ship manager is aware of its approach to seafarer training as it sets out the knowledge base and competencies that the international maritime community considers appropriate for the safe operation of ocean-going, commercial shipping.
