Data analysis
Descriptive statistics were used to describe demographic data
and major variables. Levine’s test was used to examine the
assumption of homogeneity of variance on gender. Variable
differences by gender were tested by t-test or chi-squared
analysis. Pearson’s r correlation was used to test relationships
among suicide attempts and study variables. Variables
significantly associated with suicide attempts in the previous
year in correlation analysis and literature review were
included in stepwise regression testing, with suicide attempts
as the dependent variable. All statistical analyses were
performed on a personal computer with the statistical
package SPSS for Windows
