Day 17: After just over two weeks of use, the ulcer showed signs of responding to the new dressing: exudate level began to increase as the slough began to debride, granulation tissue was also evident across the wound bed. In order to effectively manage the wound exudate, a layer of AQUACELTM ExtraTM dressing was applied over the primary dressing and it was secured with the AQUACELTM Foam dressing. Dressing changes continued at a frequency of three times per week.
Day 30: At the end of four-weeks, significant progression was noted: the slough continued to soften and debride, and the wound had also reduced in size (7cm x 6cm x 0.5cm). The patient also expressed her satisfaction with the comfort of the foam dressing, and commented that it was not irritating her skin like other adhesive dressings had in the past.
End of Week 11: By week 11, the wound continued to show signs of improvement. The wound was managed with AQUACELTM Ag Foam dressing alone. To minimize the risk of the wound re-colonizing, it was decided to continue this regimen until the bacterial burden was fully controlled, at which point the antimicrobial dressing would be discontinued.
