The fact that a statistically significant change was observed for BMI percentile at HBS was also noteworthy. This study was designed as a prevention strategy with all children invited to participate, not just at-risk children. Thus, only about 30% of the children were in an unhealthy
BMI range at baseline for both schools. The baseline mean BMI percentile ranged from 56.1 to 71.8 for the intervention and control groups at both schools. The end-of-year mean BMI percentile ranged from 50.3 to 66.9. The favorable change noted at HBS is consistent with the other changes at HBS and all highly aligned with the 5-2-1-0 curriculum components.
