CHIANG RAI – A newborn boy was found abandoned in chilly weather, shivering from the cold inside a cardboard box, police said.
Pol Lt Prachid Suangkaew, a duty officer at Muang Chiang Rai police station, said factory workers reported that they discovered the baby on a roadside near a stone crushing plant on Monday morning.
The officer said the infant was wrapped in a blood-stained towel inside the Double A box. He still had his umbilical cord attached. The baby was alive and well, even though the temperature had fallen to about 16C this morning. He was taken to a hospital.
Police believed the parents decided to dump the child because they were not ready to look after him. The parents were likely university students, as two university dormitories are nearby.
Investigators were checking footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to find the parents.
