3.1.CytotoxiceffectsofextractsagainstHepG2cells
As depictedin Fig.1, therewasadose-dependentgrowthinhi-
bitionoftheHepG2cellsfollowingtreatmentwiththehexane
extract.TheEC50 wasobtainedat37.1771.00 μg/ml.TheEC50 value
wasfoundtobehigherthanthatofthecommercialchemotherapy
drug,vincristinesulfate(EC50¼0.01170.006 mg/ml).TheEC50 val-
uesoftheotherextractscouldnotbedeterminedbecausetheir
percentagesofinhibitionwerebelow50%atalltestedconcentrations.These findingsstronglyindicatedthattheHepG2
cellsweremoresusceptibletothehexane(non-polar)extractthan
theotherextracts.Thus,themolecularmechanismofcelldeath
inducedbythisextractwasfurtherstudied.
