She did well on her own. She projected one of the paintings and, rather than telling them about it, she gave them a list of arte -facts to find. There paintings are complex and detailed, with many small images, some grotesque, some comic. The pupils enjoyed searching, as they had probably enjoyed search-picture books a few years earlier: they were on familiar ground; they were playing a game; they had structure and a focus (the list); they had an activity (the search) ,and the activity (a sort of DART; see Chapter 4) brought them very close to the painting. After ten minutes, they knew a lot about it. This was an enjoyable and productive activity.
