7.2 Extraction of microbes from sources
Solid food materials (10 g) or liquid beverages (10 mL) will be weighed and mixed with 100 mL of sterilized 0.85% NaCl solution. The mixture will be homogenized in a sterile mortar and pestle for 5 min before being vortexed for 5 min. The mixture will be centrifuged at 4000g for 15 min and clear supernatant will be obtained and kept at 4˚C before use
