In January 2001, the library implemented Innovative Interfaces’s Advanced Keyword Search (AKS) option and changed the interface (figure 4). The AKS option ignores leading articles in user input and, in the case of zero-hits, broadens the search iteratively. The search-broadening techniques are applied in the following order until results are found. Innovative Interfaces allows libraries to set how many of these options are implemented before returning a zero-hits response to the user. The library implemented options one through three.
