These results suggest that two distinct
steroid biosynthesis sites exist in the ovary and that cells at the two
sites differ functionally in the female grouper. Thus, further studies
are necessary to immunohistochemically investigate the localization
of P45011β and also of cytochrome P450 aromatase, which
catalyzes the synthesis of estradiol-17β, to clarify functional
differences of the SPCs in the ambisexual gonads of anemonefish.
