Although I've been in the police force for a
long time and have seen lots of dead bodies, it
always makes me sad, especially when it's a
young person. I felt angry, too. This was the
second murder during our investigation and we
still didn't know the motive.
I went downstairs, looking for a telephone, and found one
on the wall in the kitchen. I used my handkerchief to pick it
up and dial 999. I had to tell the police in that area what l'd
discovered. I knew that they would bring an ambulance and
a doctor with them.
I put the phone back and then I noticed a handbag on the
kitchen table. I emptied the bag onto the table. The motive for this murder was certainly not money; there were five
twenty-pound notes in a wallet as well as several plastic
cards. The victim's name was on all the plastic cards - it
was lane Parker.
Among the things a woman usually carries in her
handbag, I found two articles which interested me. One was
a photograph of herself arm in arm with a man. That man was Frank Morton. The other was a picture postcard from
Hong Kong addressed to her. The words on the back said:
Hong Kong is a wonderful place, just as you described it.
The trip was very profitable. See you soon. Love, Frank.
I could hear the noise of a police car in the distance, and
I went to open the door. A detective and a policeman were
in the police car and I told the policeman to wait at the gate
for the ambulance. Inside the house, I explained to the
detective the reason why I was there.
"I came here in connection with another murder," I said.
