2015 Bob Dorr Tournament of Champions
Volunteer Opportunities
The Tournament of Champions (TOC) is a non-controversy tournament designed to allow 7 – 10 year old players the opportunity to experience tournament play and the joys of teamwork.
Dates: June 19 – 21 and June 26 – 28, 2015
Schedule: Approximately 4 baseball and 3 softball games daily. Games run 2 hours maximum.
Locations: Beal Field (baseball) and Southside Field (softball) in Machias
Volunteer Overview & Support:
Thank you for your willingness to volunteer. This is a great way to support young athletes on the field and ensure that Machias hosts a very successful Tournament for local residents and visitors to the area.
The Tournament of Champions is led by Corey Schwinn (Tournament Director) and Ernie Atkinson (Assistant Director) in coordination with the Machias Area Little League Board of Directors.
Volunteers will be supported by Ernie Atkinson (Umpire Coordinator), Patrick Whitney & Tom Boutureira (Field Managers), and Chloe Dowley (Concessions Manager).
To maximize your volunteer time and minimize volunteer coordination we ask that you consider performing various duties during your shift (ie. field maintenance & scorekeeper) or committing to multiple shifts for a specific job.
Because this involves working with youth all volunteers will be required to complete a background check.
Volunteer Positions: (Training will be provided for certain positions.)
Umpire
Manages play on the field including calling of pitches, outs, and other game decisions in accordance with Little League rules of play.
Scorekeeper
Keeps record of team rosters, gameplay details, and game score in the official scorebook. The scorekeeper will be teamed up with the volunteer Pitch Counter on game day.
Pitch Counter
Counts pitches thrown by all pitchers for both teams each inning. At the end of each half inning, both teams’ pitch count recorders must compare and confirm the count(s) for each pitcher who appeared in the half inning and the total game count for any pitcher who was relieved during that half inning.
Announcers
Announces batters up, pitching changes, and other important game details.
Field Maintenance
Works with a team of 2 or 3 to prepare the field for play before the first game and in between games. Work includes dragging the infield, setting bases, chalking foul lines and batter’s box, raking, and other tasks to ensure the fields are safe and ready for play.
Concessions
Works with other volunteers to prepare food (at home and on-site), sell concession items, refresh supplies, make change, manage trash and recycling, and run errands as needed.
