3.1. Fabrication and electrical performance of LED solar simulator
The schematic illustration of the fabricated LED solar simulator
is shown in Fig. 1. The structure of the LED simulator is similar to
the conventional Xenon lamp simulator except the lighting source.
Total of 96 LED packages (1.5 W/package) were evenly loaded on
three modules which are placed on aluminum heat sink plate.
The modules are in a good contact with the aluminum plate. The
220 mm 550 mm heat sink plate consists of 20 fins with a thickness
of 2 mm and a length of 550 mm.
Fig. 2 shows the measured I–V characteristics of the solar cell.
sample operated by the solar simulator. The LED solar cell simulator
with 0.9 sun exhibited the output current about 80% of that
from the 1 sun Xenon lamp simulator. The output power of the solar
cell was increased with the LED power as was clearly demonstrated
by the comparison from the data in Fig. 2 (0.9 sun and
0.5 sun).
